Mercury bookkeeping, Treasury included.

Last checked October 29, 2026

In short

For Mercury bookkeeping, Imprest connects to Mercury directly, or through Plaid where the direct connection isn't offered yet. Your Mercury accounts, Treasury included, come into Banks & Cards. Lines wait for your review unless a bank rule books them, and Treasury yield and fees are booked for you.

Before you start

You need an owner, admin, accountant or bookkeeper role in Imprest. On Mercury's side, you need to be able to sign in to the Mercury account and approve access for an app. One Mercury sign-in covers every account in that Mercury workspace.

The direct connection appears when you search for Mercury in the bank picker. If it isn't offered for your company yet, Imprest connects Mercury through Plaid instead, and the Plaid guide applies.

Connect Mercury

  1. Open Bank Connections in the sidebar and select Add a connection.
  2. On the Plaid card, select Connect, then search for Mercury.
  3. In Connect Mercury directly, select Continue to Mercury.
  4. Sign in at Mercury and approve access. Mercury sends you back to Imprest, and your transactions start syncing.
  5. For each account, answer Which account in your books is this?, then select Start tracking.

Already connected Mercury through Plaid? Open that connection from Bank Connections and select Connect Mercury to move to the direct feed. History you already have is matched to the new lines, so it isn't counted twice.

What comes in, and how it lands in your books

The first sync brings in up to two years of history. Pending transactions come in and update in place when they settle. Cancelled, failed and blocked transactions never come in.

New lines wait in Banks & Cards for you to match or categorize, the same as any bank feed, unless a bank rule you set up books them.

Mercury categories

On the connection's page, Mercury categories lets you choose an account in your books for each category you use in Mercury, or select Map automatically. These choices only suggest a category on each line. You still confirm it.

Treasury

Imprest adds your Treasury accounts too. Yield is booked automatically to interest and dividend income, Mercury's fee to bank charges, and changes in value to a gain or loss account. To choose different accounts, open Treasury yield accounts on the connection's page.

Statements

Mercury statements are collected for you, at most once a day.

Day to day

  • Mercury notifies Imprest of new activity, and Imprest also checks every morning as a backup.
  • To check now, open the connection and select Sync now.
  • Review new lines in Banks & Cards.
  • The connection's page has a How it works link that walks through the direct feed.

Common problems

Mercury needs you to approve access again

Mercury's approval expires if Imprest can't refresh it, for example after a long pause. The connection then asks you to re-approve access. Select Reconnect and sign in at Mercury again. The same applies when the message says Mercury needs updated permissions.

The connection didn't complete

When you come back from Mercury, Imprest tells you what happened: you cancelled the sign-in, Mercury rejected the approval, Imprest couldn't read your accounts yet, or the sign-in had no eligible accounts. Try connecting again, or sign in with the Mercury login that holds the accounts.

A transaction shows twice after switching from Plaid

Imprest matches the old Plaid lines to the new Mercury ones. If a line can't be matched, it shows up in review, where you can ignore the extra copy.

Disconnect

  1. Open Bank Connections and select the Mercury connection.
  2. Select Disconnect, then Disconnect account to confirm.

Imprest stops syncing. Posted transactions and everything already in your books stay. Pending transactions that hadn't settled are removed.
