Microsoft Excel integration

Publish your financial reports to a managed Microsoft Excel workbook.

Imprest exports report results to a managed OneDrive workbook. Workbook edits are never imported into your books, and each destination file has its own report selection and sync schedule.

How it works

Three common scenarios, step by step.

Financial reports published

Sets the workbook's reporting policy and checks the first export.

Example: your finance team needs a monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Trial Balance.

01Your team

Destination account connected

Microsoft Excel access authorized

02Your team

Reports and settings chosen

Period and accounting basis set

03Imprest

Workbook written

The first sync creates the file

04Your team

Totals and freshness checked

The exported workbook is opened and compared

After a successful export, the OneDrive workbook contains the selected report results. Later successful syncs refresh it under that file's settings.

Report sent from the report view

Shows how each report applies the destination's settings.

Example: you are viewing a year-to-date Profit & Loss and want it in the same export as a Balance Sheet.

01Your team

Report opened in Imprest

Period, basis and breakdown selected

02Your team

Export destination chosen

An existing workbook or a new one

03Imprest

File's report policy applied

Each report keeps its own date and basis behavior

04Your team

Other report tabs checked

Separate files for different policies

After sync, the Profit & Loss reflects the destination's period and basis, balance reports show an accrual snapshot, and aging shows current open items. Check these differences before comparing tabs.

Analysis kept separate from shared reports

Protects your team's analysis from the next refresh.

Example: your team annotates report variances and shares the results with a reviewer.

01Your team

Managed workbook identified

The next sync replaces the whole file

02Your team

Analysis kept in a separate workbook

No annotations or new tabs in the managed file

03Your team

File access granted

Workbook permission is set separately

04Imprest

Reports refreshed before review

The latest successful sync is confirmed

After permissions are checked and the reports are refreshed, reviewers can use the exported reports while your separate analysis stays outside the workbook Imprest replaces.

Scope

Synchronized data and your controls.

Data synchronized

Report results, exported daily by default or when you choose Sync now. Each export reflects the report data available at the last successful sync, not every ledger change as it happens.

Your controls

Imprest rebuilds and replaces the entire workbook on each sync, so edits and extra tabs in the managed file are overwritten. Keep analysis in a separate workbook. Period and basis settings affect each report differently, so check the date and basis on each tab.

Set up

Setting up Microsoft Excel.

Requirements

  • Permission to manage settings or app connections in Imprest.
  • A Microsoft account with OneDrive that should own the workbook. Imprest asks Microsoft for OneDrive file access and the account email.
  • Permission to manage settings to send a report from its header.

Connect from Apps

  1. Open Apps, choose Add a connection, find Excel and choose Connect.
  2. Choose Connect Excel.
  3. Sign in to your Microsoft account and allow access.
  4. Choose Open workbook to see the workbook the first sync created in OneDrive.
  5. Under Report tabs, choose the reports, the Period and the Basis, add a Name if you like, then choose Save settings.

Start from a report

  1. Open the report and choose Sync in its header.
  2. Pick a workbook or a new one.
  3. Choose Sync now.

The first sync runs as soon as the Microsoft account is connected, and settings changes apply on the next sync.
