Your financial statements in Excel, updated daily.
In short
Imprest writes the reports you choose, such as your Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet, into an Excel workbook in your OneDrive and refreshes it every day. It only sends reports out: editing the workbook never changes your books. Choose Sync now on its card for a fresh copy before the daily refresh.

Before you start
To connect, you need to be able to manage settings or app connections in Imprest, and a Microsoft account with OneDrive that should own the workbook. Imprest asks Microsoft for OneDrive file access and your account email.
Treat the workbook as read-only. Imprest replaces the whole workbook on every sync, so your edits and any tabs you add to it are overwritten. Build your own models in a separate workbook that refers to this one.
Connect Excel
- In Imprest, open Apps, choose Add a connection, find Excel and choose Connect.
- Choose Connect Excel. Imprest sends you to Microsoft.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account and allow access.
- Back in Imprest, the first sync runs right away and creates the workbook in your OneDrive. Choose Open workbook to see it.
- Under Report tabs, choose the reports, the Period and the Basis, give it a Name if you like, then choose Save settings. Changes apply on the next sync.
You can also start from a report. Open the report, choose Sync in its header, pick a workbook or a new one, and choose Sync now. Sending a report this way needs permission to manage settings.
What goes to the workbook
Each report you turn on becomes a worksheet: Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Trial Balance, AR Aging and AP Aging. The standard set is the first three, on accrual basis, for this month. You can also break the P&L down by month, or by a tracking category.
- The P&L uses the period and basis you chose.
- The Balance Sheet and Trial Balance are accrual balances as of the end of the period, or today if that's earlier.
- The aging worksheets show what's open on the day of the sync.
Each workbook has its own settings, so you can keep several: an accrual board pack and a cash-basis trial balance for your tax preparer, for example. One Microsoft account can hold more than one.
For formulas in your own workbook, refer to the Data worksheet (stable columns, one row per account) or defined names such as Imprest_NetIncome, because cell positions on the report worksheets shift as your accounts change.
Day to day
- The workbook refreshes once a day. Choose Sync now on its card for a fresh copy before a meeting or a close.
- Last synced shows when it last refreshed, and Recent sync activity lists each run.
- To add another workbook under the same Microsoft account, choose Add workbook. To use a different Microsoft account, choose Connect another account.
- Sharing is a OneDrive setting. Being in your Imprest company doesn't by itself let someone open the file. A teammate can choose Request access when they pick the workbook from a report. The person who connected the account sees the request under Access requests and can choose Share (view only) or Share with edit.
- A number wrong in the workbook is wrong in the books. Fix the transaction in Imprest, then sync.
Common problems
- "Automatic syncing is paused after an error." Fix what the message names, then choose Sync now to retry.
- "Microsoft asked us to re-authorize this connection." Choose Reconnect and sign in to Microsoft again.
- My notes in the workbook disappeared. The whole workbook is replaced on every sync. Keep your work in a separate workbook.
- The workbook was deleted. The next sync creates a new one. Use the Open workbook link in Imprest, since an old shared link won't work.
- A custom date range isn't supported. The workbook falls back to This month and says so. Choose one of the listed periods instead.
Remove or disconnect
- Stop one workbook. Choose Remove on its card, then Remove workbook. Imprest stops writing to it; the file stays in your OneDrive.
- Disconnect the Microsoft account. Choose Disconnect account and confirm. Every workbook on that account stops syncing. Nothing is deleted, and if you reconnect, syncing resumes into the same files.
Your books don't change either way. The workbook was only ever a copy of your reports.
