How we write our guides.

Our guides answer the questions small business owners ask about their books and their software. This page explains how we make them and where the facts come from. If you find a mistake, it tells you where to send it.

Authorship

Who writes the guides?

Each Learn guide names the founder who answers for it. We use AI to research and draft, and every fact in a new guide is checked against its source before it ships. The name at the top of each guide links to our About page.

Fact checking

How is each fact checked?

Every new guide is checked against its sources before it ships, and we check an older guide again whenever we update it. That means opening the page a fact came from and reading it. A search result doesn't count. In a new guide, every number is worked out again, and anything it says about Imprest is checked against our own code.

While we draft, we mark anything we haven't confirmed yet. The site won't launch with one of those marks left on a page, so a guide can't go out with an open question in it.

Tax and payroll questions need an accountant's review. Until we have one, guides that need one wait, and the ones we publish say no more about tax than the IRS page they cite.

Sources

Where do the facts come from?

Every outside link in a guide goes to a source on our list, and a guide can't ship with a link to anything else.

Sources Imprest's guides cite, by kind, as of October 2026
Kind of sourceExamplesWhat we use it for
The AI makersOpenAI, Anthropic, the Model Context Protocol siteTheir own models and connectors
IntuitIntuit's own sites, blog and filingsFacts about Intuit and its products, and Intuit's own surveys, labeled as Intuit's
The accounting professionAICPA, Journal of Accountancy, FASBAccounting rules and practice
The accounting trade pressAccounting Today, CPA Practice AdvisorNews and industry numbers
The US governmentIRS, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Small Business Administration, Census BureauTax rules and official statistics
A company's own siteIts website, help center or pricing pageThat company's own prices and offers, and nothing else

Now and then we cite a trade group or research institute on its own subject. An archived copy of a page on the list counts as that page. We don't cite encyclopedias, review sites or other firms' blogs.

A company's own site backs facts about that company only, such as its own prices and offers. No test can read a sentence, so we check that rule by hand.

AI

Do you use AI to write them?

Yes. AI helps us find sources and write first drafts. A second AI pass that didn't write the draft checks each new guide's facts against their sources. People decide what gets published. This page covers every guide, so we don't add an AI label to each one.

Dates

How do I know a guide is current?

Each guide shows a “Last reviewed” date under the byline. That's the day we last went over the guide and its sources.

Each source names its publisher, and most also carry the day we last checked the page. Here's one from our guide on whether AI bookkeeping is safe: Plaid, “Why is Plaid involved?”, checked October 30, 2026.

Prices and features change. Our rule is to date a fact about another company's product in the sentence itself. When we refresh a guide, we change what's out of date and then move the date. We never move the date on its own. Some guides also keep a changelog of what moved.

Fairness

Are you fair to other software?

We sell accounting software, so it's a fair question. Our rule is to say what other products do well, and to say it first. No guide ranks Imprest first. When Imprest shows up in a comparison, the page says that Imprest publishes it.

Every guide closes with a box to try Imprest, set apart from the guide itself.

Corrections

Found a mistake?

Email support@imprest.ai. Tell us which guide is wrong and where. If you have a source, send it too. We'll check it against the source, and if we got it wrong, we fix the guide and the fix moves its “Last reviewed” date.
