Support / ChatGPT
Connect ChatGPT to Imprest.
In short
Add Imprest to ChatGPT as a connector, and ChatGPT can answer questions from your books and record entries for you, in one company you choose and never beyond what your own role allows.

Before you start
You need an Imprest login with access to the company you want ChatGPT to work in, and a ChatGPT account that can add custom connectors. Which ChatGPT plans can do that, and where the setting lives, is up to OpenAI; see ChatGPT's help.
ChatGPT connects through Imprest's MCP server at https://imprest.ai/mcp, signing in with OAuth. There's no API key to copy: ChatGPT registers itself and you sign in to Imprest.
Writes happen right away. When ChatGPT uses a tool that changes your books, the change is made at once. Imprest doesn't hold it for approval the way its own in-app agents do. Imprest marks the tools that change things so ChatGPT can ask you first, but connect only an assistant you trust with your books.
Connect ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, add a new custom connector. Name it Imprest, enter the server URL
https://imprest.ai/mcp, and choose OAuth if ChatGPT asks how to sign in. - ChatGPT opens Imprest. Sign in if you aren't already.
- On Imprest's consent screen, choose the Company, read what ChatGPT will be able to do, and choose Allow.
- Back in ChatGPT, turn the Imprest connector on in a chat and ask your question.
What ChatGPT can read and do
ChatGPT starts knowing whose books it's in, today's date in your books' time zone and when your fiscal year starts. What it can reach depends on the permissions on the consent screen and on your role in that company.
- Read. Your financial reports and dashboard figures, account balances, the ledger and journal entries, invoices, bills, expenses, purchase orders, bank transactions, reimbursements, your company profile, whether the month is ready to close, and your employee list.
- Record. Create an expense, a recurring expense or a reimbursement claim; record a payment on an invoice or a bill; void an invoice; categorize a bank transaction, confirm a suggested category or undo one; add a vendor; merge two accounts; and open or send a reminder for a document request list.
Anything ChatGPT records goes through the same rules as a person doing it in Imprest. A permission you didn't grant means ChatGPT never sees the tool at all.
Day to day
- Ask in plain words: "What did we spend on contractors last quarter?" or "Which invoices are more than 30 days overdue?"
- Check what ChatGPT says it will record before you let it go ahead, and open the record in Imprest afterwards if you want to see it.
- Each connection reaches one company. To work in another company, connect again and choose that company on the consent screen.
- Accountants connect one client company at a time: pick it on the consent screen, and connect again to reach another.
Common problems
- ChatGPT can read but not record. The connection was granted read-only permissions, or your role in the company doesn't allow that change. Ask an owner about your role, or connect again.
- Recording is refused while you're moving from other accounting software. Writes are refused while a migration is running, and may be refused while your old software still keeps the books.
- Recording is refused after your subscription ended. ChatGPT can still read your books. Writes work again once the subscription is restarted.
- ChatGPT is in the wrong company. Disconnect it, then connect again and pick the right company.
Disconnect
- In Imprest, open Settings → Your Account → Security → Linked apps.
- Find ChatGPT and the company, choose Disconnect, then confirm.
ChatGPT's next request fails and it has to ask again. Anything ChatGPT already recorded stays in your books, like any other entry. You can also remove the connector in ChatGPT's own settings.
