How much does each QuickBooks Online plan cost?

Plus costs $140 a month at list price, $25 more than before August 1, 2026, and Simple Start is still $38. These are Intuit’s US list prices, per month, before promotions, as its pricing page showed them on October 30, 2026. The earlier prices are the same page as the Internet Archive saved it on July 15, 2026.

Advanced$340$170$275+$65 (+24%)25

The discount is a promotion on the first three months; from the fourth month the list price applies. Intuit also names Free, Lite and Ledger plans in its notice; this page covers the four plans on its main pricing page.

Did QuickBooks Online raise prices in 2026?

Yes. On June 26, 2026, Intuit said the monthly prices of QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus and Advanced would change for renewals on or after August 1, 2026, and that Free, Lite, Ledger and Simple Start would not change. The notice prints no new plan prices. The table above pairs Intuit’s pricing page today with the same page as it read on July 15, 2026.

If you already subscribe to one of the three plans that changed, Intuit says the new price applies “for renewals on or after August 1, 2026.” Intuit also says recent subscribers keep their price for the first six months; the new price starts with the seventh invoice. If you sign up today, the price on Intuit’s pricing page is already the new one.

Why did QuickBooks raise its prices?

Intuit’s notice of June 26, 2026 ties the change to new features. It names Bill Pay Elite, a $45 a month add-on for Simple Start, Essentials and Plus that comes included in Advanced, and a $40 a month inventory add-on for Simple Start and Essentials. It says the new prices are there “to support these new capabilities.”

Intuit’s annual report shows what the earlier prices did. In the year ended July 31, 2026, the day before this change, QuickBooks Online Accounting revenue rose $931 million, or 23%. Intuit credited that growth to higher effective prices, customer growth and what it calls mix shift.

How have QuickBooks Online prices changed since 2016?

Plus has gone from $40 a month in 2016 to $140 today. Every row below is Intuit’s own pricing page as the Internet Archive saved it on the date shown, read on October 31, 2026. Intuit’s press release dates the launch of Advanced to October 15, 2018. The later prices are in the first table: from October 16, 2025 until August 1, 2026, Intuit’s page listed $75, $115 and $275, its “before” column, and today’s list is its first column.

Advanced launched in October 2018, so 2016 has no Advanced price. Intuit also changed prices between some of these dates, so read each row as what the page showed that day. The chart plots the list prices against U.S. inflation over the same years (BLS CPI-U), and adds QuickBooks Desktop for reference. Its footnotes and sources say where each point comes from.

‡ Past prices are Intuit's own US pricing page as the Internet Archive saved it on the date shown: 16 June 2016 for 2016 ($27 Essentials, $40 Plus) and 13 December 2018 for 2018 ($35, $60 and $150). Advanced's launch price is from Intuit's 15 October 2018 press release. Years without a dated copy (2017, 2019 and 2020) are drawn as a straight line between the dated years.
* QBO Advanced launched in October 2018 at $150/mo (Intuit press release); its growth is measured over 8 years.
† QuickBooks Desktop, the cheapest edition a new U.S. buyer could get in 2016 and in 2026. 2016: Pro, a $299.95 one-time license (Intuit's Desktop Pro 2016 page as the Internet Archive saved it on 15 November 2015). 2026: Enterprise Gold, starting at $2,210 a year for one user (Intuit's Enterprise pricing page, checked 31 October 2026), the Desktop edition Intuit still sells to new customers after Pro Plus, Premier Plus, and Mac Plus were withdrawn from new U.S. customers on 30 September 2024. The 2016 license is spread over a 3-year life, about $100 a year. From 2020 the line follows the Pro Plus price a new buyer paid each year ($299.95, $349.99 from October 2021, $549 from the 2023 release in 2022, $649 from October 2023), until Pro Plus stopped selling on 30 September 2024; from then it is Enterprise Gold, $1,922 a year in October 2024 and $2,210 from March 2025 (Intuit's Enterprise pricing page, Internet Archive copies). The chart plots Desktop per month; the table gives its annual price. Because the line moves from Pro to Enterprise, it shows what a new buyer pays, not one edition's price rising.

What does each QuickBooks Online plan include?

Advanced is the only plan with an unlimited chart of accounts and unlimited classes and locations; Simple Start is the only one without multicurrency. These limits are from Intuit’s usage-limits help article (updated August 5, 2026) and its multicurrency help article (updated October 6, 2026), both checked October 31, 2026.

User counts are fixed per plan (the first table has them). A fourth billable user on Essentials requires Plus, and a sixth billable user on Plus requires Advanced, listed at $340 a month. Essentials, Plus and Advanced allow unlimited time-tracking-only users; Plus and Advanced also allow unlimited reports-only users.

What costs extra on top of a QuickBooks plan?

Payroll is the biggest add-on: Workforce Payroll adds $50 a month plus $7 per employee to any plan. These are the extras Intuit prices on its own pages, checked October 31, 2026.

Intuit offers 50% off the payroll bundle’s monthly base for the first 3 months; the per-employee fee stays the same. Intuit sells payroll under the name QuickBooks Workforce. Inventory and Bill Pay Elite are from Intuit’s August 2026 pricing notice; Intuit’s Firm of the Future announced the inventory add-on in January 2026.

What should you do before your QuickBooks renewal?

Start with the date. If you already pay for Essentials, Plus or Advanced, the new price starts at your first renewal on or after August 1, 2026. If you subscribed recently, Intuit says your price holds for six months and the new one starts with your seventh invoice. If you are on a promotion, Intuit says it honors the promotional price until the promotion ends.

Then check that your plan still fits. The plan limits table above is the test. Count the people who log in as billable users. Plus allows 5, and a sixth needs Advanced. If you pay for Plus or Advanced for a limit you no longer reach, a smaller plan may do. Intuit says you can upgrade, downgrade, manage or cancel your subscription at any time from the gear icon, under Subscriptions and Billing.

If your accountant pays for QuickBooks and bills you for it, Intuit’s notice says to ask your accountant what happens next. If you pay once a year, the notice says the annual terms are in your sign-up and in the annual renewal notice, so read that notice when it comes. Intuit does not say on the notice how the change applies to an annual plan.

Last, add up the whole bill: the plan and every add-on you use, payroll included, at list price after any promotion ends. That total is the number to compare.

How do you compare QuickBooks Online prices fairly?

A fair comparison adds up the plan you actually need for your number of users, plus the add-ons you use, at list price after any promotion ends. Intuit’s pricing page is the source of record for its own prices; this page is updated when they change.

Changelog

  • Updated October 31, 2026: Past prices are Intuit’s own US pricing page as the Internet Archive saved it on the date shown, in place of third-party price histories. Advanced’s launch price is from Intuit’s October 15, 2018 press release. Years without a dated copy are drawn as a straight line between the dated years; the chart used to show steps in 2017 and 2019 that no dated copy supports. The plan prices did not change. The chart’s Enterprise Gold starting price of $2,210 a year now cites Intuit’s live Enterprise pricing page, checked October 31, 2026, in place of the September 2 capture. Rechecked the plan limits and add-on prices; Intuit’s 1099 page no longer prints a price per extra form, so this page doesn’t either.
  • Updated October 30, 2026: Rechecked every plan price and the 50% off for 3 months offer against Intuit’s pricing page: no change. Multicurrency is still on Essentials, Plus and Advanced (Intuit updated that help article on October 6, 2026). Added what Intuit says about why prices went up and what to do before your renewal. Corrected the payroll bundle prices to Intuit’s payroll pricing page: the earlier figures added the plan price to the standalone payroll price.
  • Updated September 24, 2026: List prices as Intuit’s pricing page showed them on September 2, 2026, and the plans Intuit’s notice says changed on August 1, 2026.
